2012 to 2020
Significant changes that might be seen at my school between now and 2020 -
Teacher adoption of tablets
Beginning in September of the 2012-12 school year, teachers begin using tablet devices for a variety of managament and instructional purposes. Professional development and collaboration feature heavily in this implementation. -
Tablets in every classroom
BYOT is on the horizon for us. In the meantime, every classroom is equipped with 3-5 tablets for student use. Emphasis is on content creation although content consumption (via apps) also happens. Teachers make informed decisions about app selection and tablet use is an integral part of project-based learning activities. -
BYOT becomes a reality
A long time in the planning, the school infrastructure is now ready for every adult and student to be able to bring one or more Internet-connected devices to school for instructional use. Staff, students, and parents understand and support the initiative. Precious school resources can now be reallocated for purposes beyond purchases of hardware for student use. -
Extended campus
Beginning with the 2015-16 school year, students spend the 'school day' in a variety of locations, engaged in a variety of tasks grounded in real-life experiences. The classroom is still the anchor for instruction but students are able to arrange fieldwork on a regular basis. -
Standardized testing dropped
Assessment is changing. With ubiqutious access to online resources and our focus on collaboration, project-based activities are now the core of assessment of our students' learning. Technology supports student work and assessment in ways not possible previously. Teachers, students, and parents all believe we now have a much better understanding of what students are actually learning and able to do with that learning. -
What's next???
I can't imagine what will happen next, but I know we will continue to grow and change as society and the world change!
