My Birthday
I was born in Limerick, Ireland under the name of Bradan Lynch. My parents names are Alexander and Darcel Lynch.I had 4 sisters and 2 brothers living with me, so it was cramped in our small house. Life was hard and we weren't getting enough money to pay for all of our needs. After living like this for a long time, we decided to set sail to America in search of money and a better living. After reading this autobiography, hopefully you will know all about the immigrant life. -
Arriving At Ellis Island
Ellis Island When I arrived at Ellis Island I had to go through a lot of different things just to get out. My least favorite thing was the inspection. Doctors looked at my mouth, body temperature, and even lifted up my eyelids to see if I was infected with anything. Before I was examined, my mother and sisters were seperated from me and my dad. They were examined somewhere else. After everything we all met outside quickly. -
Staying Overnight
After we were done with our inspections and everything else we had to go through, we quickly figured out that we had no place to stay. Luckily there were dorm rooms for us to sleep in overnight. We arrived during the day so we just waited until it was time to sleep. It wasn't a very nice place to stay but was better than sleeping outside. Besides, soon my family and I were going to live in a really small house. I didn't sleep well that night because I was excited to start my journey in America. -
First Tenement
TenementsAfter my family and I stayed overnight at Ellis Island, we set out to find a tenement. The New York was gross, but I got used to it. Tenements were so small and were placed in the worst parts of the city, but it was all my family could afford to buy. With all my brothers and sisters, it was always cramped. We had to share a filthy bathroom with our entire floor. The showers and sinks were dirty, my family's stench filled the room, and everywhere around us smelled terrible. -
Statue of Liberty
After two years of living in the tenement, I had to get a job. The only one that I could find was working on the Statue of Liberty at Ellis Island. Hundreds of other immigrants worked on it too. Some guys on my floor would get up in the morning and go straight to work. The downsides were that I didn't get paid very much and it was dangerous. I was afraid of heights, but I needed a job and it was the closest one. -
Flatrion Building
The flatiron building was also a very dangerous job that I took, but the good thing is, I had experience with it from building the Statue of Libery. It was located in New York, where I lived, and had a very strange shape. As we built higher and higher, it was scarier and scarier. Wind increased in speed which made it hard to balance. I remember almost slipping off one time. If I would have, there was nothing there to catch me. Building any tall structure was terrifying.
