Nazi's raize the first flag
Vladek notices a Nazi flag that is hanging over a small town before the war starts. -
Vladek gets a letter from the government
Vladek gets a draft notice from the government because he was in the Polish army. Vladek told Anja to pack all of her belongings because her and Richieu were going to Sosnowiec while Vladek went to war. -
Vladek gets captured
Vladek shoots at the Germans but eventually gets captured. They brought him and other Jews to Nuremburg. They were put to work and had to sleep in tents. He was able to write letters to his fmaily once a week. -
Vladek gets released from prison
Orbach who was a friend of Vladek's uncle took him in their house for a few days. -
Vladek is reunited with his family
Vladek pretends he is a Pole while talking to a train conductor because he wants to get back to Sosnowiec where his family is. The train man helps him hide in the train when the Germans get on. -
The Spiegelman's are forced to move
The Germans put up pamphlets saying all Jews must relocate to the ghettos before January 1st. -
Homeless
Vladek and Anja wander around trying to find a place to stay. They end up living in holes, peoples barn, and on the streets. -
Captured
The smugglers tricked Vladek and Anja and got them caught by the Nazis. Soon after they are taken to Auschwitz where Vladek and Anja get separated and do not know if they will ever see eachother again. -
Beginning of Hell
Vladek and other prisoners are stripped of their clothes and belongings -

English
Knowing english gives Vladek an advantage because one of the block supervisors wanted to learn english. Vladek teaches him and he is rewarded with food and new clothes. -

Mancie, a Hungarian women who worked in Birkenau helped communicate between Vladek and Anja. -
Works as a tinman
Vladek starts working as a tinman in Auschwitz -

Vladek was to take apart the gas chambers so the Germans couldn't leave any evidence of all the killings. -
Evacuation on Auschwitz
The remaining prisoners marched 180 miles from Auschiwitz to Gross-Rosen camp. -
Trains
The prisoners were forced into a train for days with no food or water. They ended up in Dachau where Vladek irritated a cut in his hand each day so he would be able to go to the infirmary. -
More trains
The prisoners loaded back onto a nicer train that was made for passengers and not for animals like the previous train. The train took them from Dachau into the direction of Switzerland. Everyone got a box full of food. -
Vladek is free from the Germans
The Germans gather the last of the prisoners by a lake where some escape by swimming across. In the morning the Nazis are gone and the Jews think the war is over. Again they get captured by a patrol guard and are taken into a barn. The next morning they are still alive and there is not sight of guards. The Americans take over and the Jews are free.
