    The Northwest Ordinance created a method of admitting new states. This also prohibited slavey in the north. Free states: Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, Ohio.

    A machine that could easily process cotton by seperating the fibers and seeds. The south argues that they need slaves to feed the demand, but the north believes work should be done in factories.

    The Missouri compromise gave the national government jurisdiction over slavery, which created tension between the north and the south.

    Texas became Lone star republic and then tried to become a state but was denied. It was accepted after by joint resolution. Leads to more tension.

    Kansas/Nebraska act
    The kansas Nebraska act raised the line of the Missouri compromise to incr.ease area of slave states. Also, another goal after this was put into effect was to have a mideastern transcontinental railroad built. Slavery was a state of national issue.
