Near closing time, a fire broke out on the top floors of this building. The doors were chained shut to prevent workers from taking breaks. The fire escape collapsed from too many people and the death count was 146, mostly young girls. -

Federal Reserve System Created
This law reorganized the banking structure, creating 8-12 regional Federal Reserve Banks that all banks must become a member of. It also allowed the Government to supervise these banks. -
Clayton Anti-Trust Act
This act put many restrictions on big business, largely because of monopolies like Standard Oil and the American Tobacco Company. It stated that striking, picketing, and peaceful protest were alright. -

The Lusitania was Sunk
A German U-boat suspected the passenger vessel of carrying arms and ammunition to to the Allies. They fired without warning, killing 1198 people; 100 whom were children. -
