Articles of Confederation
The Congress formally adopted the Articles of Confederation in 1777 and it was America's first constitution led by John Dickenson. It was a plan for a new American Government and it was also a plan to unify the 13 colonies. -
Land Ordinance of 1785
A plan for surveying, selling, and settling the western lands. The western lands would be surveyed and divided into townships each 6 miles square. -
Shays Rebellion
The Farmers in the US colonies were sick of paying taxes and didn't want to spend all of their coined money by paying taxes since the government didn't accept paper money. The Shays Rebellion was a revolt led by Daniel Shays where the town citizens tried to close a courthouse in Springfield -
Northwest Ordinance
a law passed in 1787 and was created to control western settlement. It was meant to encourage orderly settlement and the formation of new states. -
Bill of Rights
The Bill of Rights finally came into effect in 1791, 2 years after they were proposed. They were proposed to the first US Congress by James Madison. Thomas Jefferson also supported the Bill of Rights.
