Delaware became the first state to ratify the Constitution
The Delaware convention was the first to vote a unanimous "yes" on the ratification of the American Constitution. -
Congress approves the 12 Amendments to the Constitution (The Bill of Rights)
Even though important states ratified the Constitution, they still wanted a Bill of Rights. The first ten amendments were called the Bill of Rights, which protected both individuals and states on too much federal government power. The Bill of Rights was ratified in 1791.
