The Gettysburg Address was a short but powerful speech by Abraham Lincoln. It was about human equality, the sacrifice of soldiers for "a new birth of freedom", and the preservation of the Union among other things. -
Surrender at Appomattox
Appomattox Court House was a town in Virginia. This is where Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered to Union General Ulysses S. Grant. Gen. Grant was very generous, and let Confederate Soldiers keep animals, gave them food, and more. Papers were signed to make the surrender of Lee's army official.
