Colonization
Costa Rica became colonized when Christopher Columbus made landfall by Limon in 1502. His forces then took over the indigenous people and took control. -

Colonist later named Costa Rica based on the saying "rich coast".They named it this in hope of finding gold in the hills. (they never did). After they noticed there was no gold they switched over on showing there worth on agricultural products. -

Costa Rica was under Spain's control for almost 300 years. They had fought for independence before, but it was not enough to get full independence. -

Coffee was discovered in Costa Rica and became the regular drink for people. -

Spain had won their independence from Spain from England in 1821 . Costa Rica then wanted their independence and won about a month later. -

Juan Mora Fernández was elected in 1825 and became the first head of state or president. He was head of state till 1833 where he later resigned. -
The flag was officially adopted
The flag was based on a copy from 1848. In 1906 they finally announced that it was going to be the official flag. -

The Cota Rican war was known in Costa Rica as the worst civil war in their country. By the end of the war 2,000 people died. The war tarted March 12 1948-April 24 1948 -
