Costa Rica became colonized when Christopher Columbus made landfall by Limon in 1502. His forces then took over the indigenous people and took control.

Colonist later named Costa Rica based on the saying "rich coast".They named it this in hope of finding gold in the hills. (they never did). After they noticed there was no gold they switched over on showing there worth on agricultural products.

The Cota Rican war was known in Costa Rica as the worst civil war in their country. By the end of the war 2,000 people died. The war tarted March 12 1948-April 24 1948
