At 6.01 pm a shot was fired at Martin Luther King Jr. who was standing on the balcony of the Lorraine Motel he was staying at in Memphis. He lay on the balcony floor with a wound covering a large portion of his jaw and neck. -
Start of protests in France
This saw the largest general strike in the country. The protests were seen as a way to change "old society" in relation to education and employment. The impact of the protests was so huge that the government was at near collapse. -
Robert Kennedy assassination
Robert Kennedy was shot at three times as he walked through the kitchen of the Ambassador Hotel and died in the Good Samaritan Hospital 26 hours later. His murderer was a Palestinian immigrant named Sirhan Sirhan who felt betrayed by Robert Kennedy's support for Israel in the June 1967 Six-Day War. -
