Classroom Student Aid Seward Montessori
I was having a bummed out day and had to go to the kindergarten classroom at Seward Montessori to help out. I didn't want to go and when I walked in, I was welcomed by a rush of kindy kids running over for hugs. This was when I knew I had to be a teacher. -
The Job Fair
Had the opportunity to go to a job fair in Minneapolis where AK schools were all there searching for teachers. I had all my ducks in a row and went to the job fair and had offers from other schools as well as from the Anchorage School District. Made the choice to move to Alaska! -
Walked into Chinook Elementary
Walked into my first classroom this day. My fears came true. I always asked my professors about what would happen if I had nothing in my classroom when I start? They would always say that it never happens like that. It happened to me. I did have the best year that year. It was a fantastic crew of kiddos and I will never forget. -
Ice Fishing with Students
This was the first time I took a class of students ice fishing to Jewel Lake. I took them and had a blast. I remember it being about 5 degrees out and and some girls with long hair were looking down the fishing holes and the ends of their hair was draped down into the hole. Because it was so cold, they ended up having clumps of ice on the ends of their hair. What a memory. -
Took One For the Team/Taught Kindy--1st Multiage Class
So I came in thinking that I was going to be teaching 1st grade and loving life. Well things changed and I was brought in and given the option of teaching a Kindy--1st multiage class. Turned out that it was a great experience. I was a bit nervious but I learned a lot as a teacher and was sold on the multiage teaching. I ended up teaching those kindy kiddos until they got to 3rd grade. I had them for 4 years!!! -
Started Chinook Wrestling Club at our School-1st Ever
Started an after school program this year. I started a youth wrestling program and had great reviews! Had over 80 kids sign up and many were very motivated to continue through out the years they were at Chinook. It is still being offered every year! -
Technology Teacher Leader Training
Our school was offered a grant and classes to a certain few of us who wrote the grant. The grant gave us tons of technology to use as leaders in our school. The document camera, digital projector, camera and computer are priceless! Started the technological age at Chinook Elementary. -
First Time teaching 3rd Grade
I taught my first 3rd grade class this year. It was awesome. I loved the curriculum. I really enjoyed how much the students were able to complete as 3rd graders. These 3rd graders were the kindys I had 4 years ago. I made some great family bonds in this class. -
Tenth Year of Teaching 2009-2010
This year marks the completion of my 10th year of teaching. I cant believe that I have completed 10 years. I truly enjoy teaching the primary grades. I also have become more involved with technology than I have ever thought I would have. It has changed the way I teach. -
Google
I just completed a class that was given on how to use mapping, Google, GPS and GIS mapping. It was a very powerful class that really opened up my thoughts on how I use Google and how I am going to use it in my classroom. With today's technology in the classroom, it has truly opened doors in what we can do as teachers.
