  • Newport Jazz Festival

    12,000 teens and college students showed up in Rhode Island for the event but all the tickets were already bought and there were no available hotels so it started a riot. The National Guard was called in and the crowds were tear gassed. It changed how music festival crowds were handled after that.

    It was the first time a presidential debate was broadcast on television. It helped in Kennedy winning as president in 1961.
  • The Assassination of John F. Kennedy

    John Kennedy was shot as president in 1963. Lyndon Johnson took his place after he died.

    It was the Beatles first live performance on US soil.

    It allowed President Johnson to get the US more involved in the war between North and South Vietnam.

    The US airforce and US Navy engaged in a bombing campaign trying to get Ho Chi Minh to stop trying to take over South Vietnam.
  • March on the Pentagon

    It was a massive demonstration against the Vietnam War. It was near the Lincoln Memorial and had mode that 100,000 attendees.
  • Chicago 8 Trial

    The trial was for 8 anti war activists that demonstrated violent acts during the democratic convention. The activists did as much as they could to disrupt the trial.
  • Mai Lai Massacre

    The US military commited a mass murder of over 500 unarmed Vietnamese civilians during the war. Several soldiers has been killed so the soldiers did this as revenge.
  • Riots at the Chicago Democratic Convention

    The riots started out as protesters showed up to protest many of the issues that were going to decided on during the Democratic Conventions. The major problem the US’s involvement in the Vietnam War.
  • Woodstock

    It was during the Civil Rights movement. It was a time when people could escape to music and spread peace.
  • The Beatles Break Up

    In 1966 the band decided to stop playing live. Their manager didn’t agree w the decision but the Beatles felt it was needed. When their manager died a year later the band started drifting apart and wasn’t making money so they split up and started doing their own things.
  • Kent State Protest

    A protest against the war at Kent State with a about 500 people took place. The National Guard started shooting into the crowd and killed 4 students and injured 9.
  • Roe vs. Wade

    This was when the US Supreme Court ruled that the constitution of the US of America would protect a woman’s rights to have an abortion.
