  • The great depression

    In 1930 unemployement soars, prompting Hoover to commission for unemployement. People started losing jobs and homes as well because of unemployement . Families had to split up or kids were sent to an ophanages. A lot of people lost alot of money and did'nt have enough monet to buy anything so they started eating out of the trash. Unemployed people started to move into Hoovervilles.
  • Star spangled banner

    In 1931 the Star spangled banner became our national anthem. The song was first written during the war of 1812. The song was held in the olympics and was heard in schools. People also started to play this song at sporting events. When people heard this song they thought of the U.S.
  • The great Amelia Earhart

    In 1932 Amelia Earhart was the first woman to see what it felt to be fly high. She was the first woman to fly over the atlantic solo, she also proved woman can do what men can do. She also inspired women to start flying. Women started taking mens jobs and they felt more independent. She was lost on her trip around the world.

    On 1933 Hitler took power. He became German chancellor and created "Nazi party's." People supported him because he was a dymatic speaker, and he got peoples attention when he gave his speeches. He disliked alot of people especailly the Jews. Because of him World War II started.

    In 1934 Dust storms were the new problem. Drought were the cause of all dust storms, and people started calling them "dust bowls." Also temperature in the Gulf changed which caused the dust storms as well, people called that "Jetstreams." 100 million acre's ruined and 200 million acre's of crops wer damaged. It damaged Kansas, Texas, Colorado, and Oklahomas crops and land.
  • Roosevelt passes new deal

    In 1935 Roosevelt passed the new deal. They were calling for social security and and it was the second phase of new deal. Unemployment jumped up to 20.1%. The new deal was being attacked, it also had significent impact in the U.S. The new deal left lasting mark on American society and government
  • China & Japan at war

    In 1936 China and Japan begin war. China and Japan continue fighting through WWII. Also FDR is reelected. Unemployment goes down 16.9%. Empire builders were in power in Italy and Japan. They still continue fighting.
  • 1937

    In 1937 Japan invades China. Japan conquers most coastal area. America helps the war. During that same year Amelia Earhart and co-pilot vanish. People began to search for them.

    Concentration Camps
    In 1938 Hitler called for a Nazi party. They destroyed Jewish shops, homes, and other stuff that belonged to Jews, 20,000-30,000 Jews were sent to concentration camps, and jews started to flee to america. Jews had to wear a gold star on their shirts. They also had to hide from Nazi soldiers. 100,000 were let into america per year.
  • WWWII begins

    In 1939 World War II begins. Unemployment is at 17.2%. Roosevelt submits 1,319 million to defense budget. Proclaims U.S. and declares limited emergency, and U.S. department of Agriculture starts first food stamp program. Federal spending is $9.14 billion. Germany invades Poland also.
