Ferguson rifle
The Ferguson rifle was most likely the first breech loading rifle to be adopted by any military force. It was a .65 caliber rifle used by the British Army in the American Revolutionary War at the end of the 1770s. Its firepower was unappreciated at the time because it did not conform to the usual tactics of armed soldiers standing face to face a necessity given the requirement to stand when reloading the the standard muzzleloading muskets or rifles. -

M1 Grand
The M1 Garand was the first semi-automatic rifle to be generally issued to the infantry of any nation. Called "The Greatest Battle Implement Ever Devised" by General George S. Patton, the Garand officially replaced the bolt-action M1903 Springfield as the standard service rifle of the United States Armed Forces in 1936 and was subsequently replaced by the selective fire M14 in 1957. However, the M1 continued to be used in large numbers until 1963 and to a lesser degree until 1966. -

The M40 is a bolt-action sniper rifle used by the United States Marine Corps.It has had four variants — the M40, M40A1, M40A3, and M40A5.The M40 was introduced in 1966. The changeover to the A1 model was completed in the 1970s, the A3 in the 2000s, and the A5 in 2009.
Each M40 is built from a Remington 700 bolt-action rifle, and is modified by USMC 2112 (Armorers) at Marine Corps Base Quantico, using components from a number of suppliers. -

It is fed by a detachable single stack magazine, which holds 7 rounds. It fires .408 CheyTac or .375 CheyTac ammunition. CheyTac papers state that the entire system is capable of delivering sub-MOA accuracy at ranges of up to 2,500 yards , one of the longest ranges of all modern-day sniper rifles. -
