Queen Elizibeath died and had no heir to the Engish throne and her nearest realitive James Stewart gained the Throne.

Charles I signs the Petition of Right
King Charles needed money to fund his wars and courts and was forced to re-open Parlament. In doing this Parlament made some rules for the king.

King Charles needed money from Parlament and Parlament agreed to give him as long as he signs the Petition of Right.
It showed that the law was above the King. -
Charles I faces rebellion in Scotland
Charles l tried to force Scots to accept an angelican prayer book and this upset Scots.
Charles l and the Scots were involved.
The Scots rebelled and King fled and needed money from Parlament thus giving Parlament a chance to oppose him.
This event is important because it was the gateway to the English civil war. -

King Charles needed money from Parlament and Parlament made laws that severly lowered his power. This made Charles angry and tried to arrest the leaders of Parlament. They escpaed, people revolted, the king fled to the north and raised an army.

The English Civil war started between the Parlament side and the People who were loyal to Charles in the North.

Charles I is tried for treason and hanged
The supporters of King Charles lost the war and Charles was captured and was put on Trial.

Charles was found guilty for treason and was hung in public.
This event was important because it was the first time that a reigning monarch was publicly tried and exicuted. -
Oliver Cromwell abolishes Parliament
After his taking over he made Englands government into more of a democratic government.

He abolished Parlament and the Monarch form of government like it used to be.
It is important because it temporaily ended Monarchy in England. -
Oliver Cromwell invades Ireland
Ireland revolted against English rule and it had to be stopped.
The People of Ireland, Oliver and the People of England were involved.
Ireland revolted and were crushed by English forces their homes and belongings were taken and over 600,000 died in the revolt.
It was important because it was a sign that Oliver was serious about England and all revolts will be crushed. A waring to the rest of England's colonies. -
Charles II is restored to the throne (Restoration)
After Oliver dies the government he had set up did so with him. A new parlament was voted in and they chose Charles l older son Charles ll to take power.
Charles ll, the People of England, and Parlament were all involved.
Charles ll restored the Monarch government and many sporting games, dancing and Theatre, which florished in this time.
This is important because this is the Restoration of Monarchy government. -
Habeas Corpus is passed
Charles ll made a law that would give prisoners fair trial.
Charles ll and the Prisoners were involved.
This gave each Prisoner a trail where a judge would charge him or set him free. Also a monarch could not throw someone in jail without any trials.
This was an important thing becasue it made trials more fair for Prisoners in England. -

After King Charles died James ll took his throne because he was the brother of King Charles and the rightful heir.

It was important because James was a Catholic and was the King of England something that had not happened in a long time. -
Glorious Revolution occurs
King James was a Catholic and had two children. English Protestants were terified of the idea of a line of Catholic Kings. So they decided to do something about it.
King James, Jame's kids, his daughter Mary, William of Orange, and Parlament were involved.
Seven members of Parliament invited William and Mary (because they were Protestants) to overthrow King James to save England from Catholosim and protect Protestantism. William agreed and led his army to England, James ran to France. -

This was important because it was a transfer of power without bloodshed and it saved England from a line of Catholic Kings. -
English Bill of Rights is signed
When Mary and William took over they decided to rule England. In doing so they made Parlament their partner in ruling England. Parlament made laws to limit the power of the rulers thus the English Bill of Rights.
Mary, William and Parlament are all involved.
