The English army, opened fire on the unarmed mob killing 1800 people.The Amritsar Massacre enraged the Indian people and all sections of the public denounced the act. -
Salt March
Gandhi and his followers set off on a 200-mile journey where Gandhi wanted to pick up a few grains of salt. This action formed the symbolic focal point of a campaign of civil disobedience in which the state monopoly on salt was the first target. -
Quit India Movement
n August 1942, Gandhiji started the 'Quit India Movement' and decided to launch a mass civil movement 'Do or Die' call to force the British to leave India. The movement was followed, nonetheless, by large-scale violence directed at railway stations, telegraph offices, government buildings, and other emblems and institutions of colonial rule. There were widespread acts of sabotage, and the government held Gandhi responsible. -
Formation of Pakistan
The Indian's military had no role in the relinquishment of control by the British and the division of India into two parts-- India and Pakistan. Under their British commanders, the Indian military had resisted the nationalist tide, and then, when London changed its course, Indian military personnel obediently shifted their allegiance to newer masters. -
India Independence
After more than two hundred years of British rule, India finally won backs its freedom on 15th August, 1947. It was a birth of a new nation and a new beginning. The only fact that marred the happiness was the fact that the country was divided into India and Pakistan and the violent communal riots took away a number of lives. -
Gandhi Assassination
Gandhi was killed by Nathuram Godse on January 30, 1948. The man who shot him was hung. Some of the consirators were under police survallence because they owned small arms. Therefore the authrities must have been aware of what was going to happen.
