Creation of Youtube
YouTube began on Febuary 14th when three former PayPal workers (Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim) created it in YouTube's first headquarters. Their first headquarters was above a Japanese restaurant and a pizzaria. -
First Video
The first video on YouTube was uploaded on April 23rd, in 2005, by one of the Co-founders. Jawed Karim uploaded the 19 second video, with him at a zoo, talking about Elephants' trunks. -
Official Public launch of YouTube
With a investment of $3.5 million from Sequoia Capital, YouTube was able to increase its bandwith and imporve its servers. Then YouTube was officially launched for the Public. -

Google's buying of YouTube
Due to copy-right infringement laws, YouTube presented three agreements to media companies, and Google offered to buy. In November the deal was closed and Google bought YouTube with $1.65 billion in stock, it's second largest aquisition. -
Video 'Charlie bit my finger' Becomes one of the most watched videos
In May, 2007, a family uploaded a video of the child Charlie, with his baby brother biting his finger. At the time of Publication the video had recieved half a billion views. -
YouTube works with CNN for Presidential Elections
On July 23rd and November 28th, in 2007, CNN and YouTube worked together to help hopeful people who wanted to run for President. They helped Democratic and Republican US 'presidential hopefuls' fielded questions submitted through YouTube. -
First Ads on YouTube
In August of 2007, Google put the first Ads on YouTube, in order to recieve money from their video site. The Ads first popped up on the lower 20% of videos on YouTube, showing after the first 10 to 15 seconds of the video. -
YouTube helps Americans be able to access more about the Government
In January 2009, the 111th U.S Congress launched official Congressional YouTube channels. This caused American citizens to gain a new level of access to the Government that wasn't possible ever before. -
YouTube and Vivendi create Vevo
In April of 2009, Vivendi and YouTube teamed up to fix YouTube's relationship with music companies. This created Vevo, which was free to distribute music videos whenever it pleased on YouTube and YouTube could keep posting big name music videos. -
YouTube rents movies.
In January of 2010, YouTube began renting movies to it's users. It first started with few movies but now it rents movies from companies like Disney, Paramount, Universal, Sony, and Warner Brothers. -
Dan Savage uses YouTube for 'It Gets Better' project
In 2010, in October, Dan Savage, a columnist launched his own channel on YouTube and started the 'It Gets Better' project. The project was a campaign, to send messages of hope to bullied kids and teenagers, the campaign later went viral. -
