During WWI, countries all over the world had conflicts with one another. Even before the war, the US had problems with Mexico. Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary was assassinated. This triggered World War I. As the US attempted to stay out of the war, a British passenger ship carrying US citizens was sunk by German. This, and the discovery of the Zimmerman Telegram prompted the US to enter the war. -
