Gracie Gold coming up from 9th at the US Figure Skating Championships in 2013 to win the silver medal and being selected for the 2013 World Team. In 2011, Gracie Gold missed making it to nationals in the junior level after placing 6th at the midwestern sectional. She had to work really hard to get noticed to get a junior grand prix, and she got and won; people in the figure skating world began to know her name; she became likely to make and even make the poduim at the 2014 Olympics -
US Ladies earn 3 Olympic Spots at 2013 Worlds
The US earning 3 spots at the Olympics for ladies because of Ashley Wagner and Gracie Gold’s performances and placements at the 2013 Worlds. In 2010, the US only had 2 spots for US Ladies at the Olympics, and it was the first time in 7 Olympics that a US lady did not make the poduim, Mirai Nasuga finished just off the poduim in 4th. The pressure was on the 2014 Olympics, because with 3 spots, the US had a better chance at the ladies poduim. -

2014 US Nationals Ashley Wagner
Ashley Wagner being selected for the US Olympic Team, after finishing 4th at US Figure Skating Championships. In 2010, Ashley Wager finsihed 3rd at Nationals, narrowly leaving her off the Olympic Team. After finishing 4th in 2014, she was in the exact same spot; United States had 3 spots for ladies in figure skating at the 2014 Olympics, the 3 spots that Ashey helped earn in 2013 at worlds;ultimately, she earned that spot for herself. There was alot of controversy over Wagner being selected. -
Ashley Wagner named to the 2014 Olympic Team
The public not understanding that the Untied States Figure Skating Nationals (Championships) do not work as oter Olympic Trials and does not guarantee a figure skater an Olnmypic spot if they place in the top 2 or 3. Ashley Wagner was selected for the Olympic Team over 2010 Olympian and 2014 US bronze medalist Mirai Nasuagu because of her impressive resume: back to back and regning bronze grand prix final finshes, 4th and 5th at the 2012 and 2013 Worlds, and back to back national champion. -

The 2014 Olympics started on Feburary 6th, and the ladies event started with the short on Feburary 21st; there was 15 days of waiting for the most watched event of the Olympics, advertising for the event became bigger and bigger, and headlines and commercials became more popular. -
2014 Winter Olympic Ladies Figure Skating Short Final Results
Less than a point seperarting the top 3 after the short program in the most watched event of the Winter Olympics. Gracie Gold (USA) was in 4th place after the short, she was a little over 6 points behind 1st place (Yuna Kim). The impact was the freeskate being a huge decieding factor on the winner, any little mistake and the top 3 could change or drop from their potential position. -
Adelina Sotnikova
After a season of ups and downs for Russian Adelina Sotnikova (she made the Grand Prix Final, but finished 5th), Adelina won the 2014 Olympic Title for Ladies Figure Skating. Controversy over Adelina Sotinikiva becoming 2014 Olympic Gold medalist, because of the strong performances and consistent figure skaters she was very narrowly ahead of, and if she earned the win, or if it was only because the Olympics were in Russia was the impact.
