    A British settlement established on the James River in Virginia in 1607, abandoned when the colonial capital was moved to Williamsburg. The Jamestown settlement impacted our country by being the first permanent settlement in America.

    Industrial Revolution Began
    The rapid development of industry that occurred in Britain brought about by the introduction of machinery. It was characterized by the use of steam power, the growth of factories, and the mass production of manufactured goods. the industrisal revolution moved people away from farms and into crowded, polluted cities where many were overworked including children. It also made more products so they were not as expensive. *Note the day and month is not exact
  • Louisiana Purchase

    Louisiana Purchase
    The territory sold by France to the US in 1803, comprising the western part of the Mississippi valley and including the modern state of Louisiana. The impact the Louisiana Purchase had on the US was that it increased the real concept of Manifest Destiny
  • Indian Removal Act

    Indian Removal Act
    Was signed into law by Andrew Jackson on May 28, 1830, authorizing the president to grant unsettled lands west of the Mississippi in exchange for Indian lands within existing state borders. A few tribes went peacefully, but many resisted the relocation policy.The impact it had on America was that created a racial situation with Native Americans treated as second class citizens or worse. It resulted in the Indian Reservation system in some of the most forelorn or worthless places in the country.

  • Assassination of Lincoln

    Assassination of Lincoln
    On April 14, 1865, John Wilkes Booth, a famous actor and Confederate sympathizer, fatally shot President Abraham Lincoln at a play at Ford's Theatre in Washington, D.C. The impact this had on America was devastating. The South actually praised the murderer, while the North grieved over his death.

    A period of U.S. history in which the manufacture, sale, and transportation of liquor was made illegal. The impact this had on America was that it led to speakeasies, where people would drink alcohol secretly, people making gin in their bathtubs, and the rise of organized crime.

    Great Depression Began
    An immense tragedy that placed millions of Americans out of work, was the beginning of government involvement in the economy and in society as a whole. The impact this had on America was that after the 1929 Wall Street Crash there was a brief recovery in early 1930. However, late in the year it began to fluctuate downwards, almost continuously, for the next two years.

    Fall of the Berlin Wall
    An announcement made by an East German goverment official which stated that borders were open, and chaos broke out on both sides of the wall. Some people even chipped away at the wall with hammers and chisels.
