Dwight D. Eisenhower was a commanding general in World War II and became President in 1953. Eisenhower was popular with the people. In 1953 he brought peace along the South Korean border after signing a truce. In November 1955 Eisenhower was reelected, and he tried his best to maintain world peace. Geneva Peace Accords
The Geneva Accords created a border at the seventeenth parallel in Vietnam, and the election of 1956 was supposed to reunify Vietnam. France also withdrew from Vietnam. Source:

Montgomery Bus Boycott
The Montgomery Bus Boycott was when African Americans stopped using the buses until they were desegregated and on November 23, 1955 the Supreme Court finally ruled segregated busing unconstitutional. Sources:

Rosa Parks
Rosa Parks was a black woman who refused to give up her seat in the bus during a time when African Americans were discriminated and made to sit in the back of the bus. This led to the Montegomery Bus Boycott.

After John F Kennedy is assassinated Lyndon Johnson is promoted from vice president to president. Johnson made the Great Society program a focus for Congress in 1965. He worked towards desegregation and limited bombing in Vietnam so negotiations could take place. Johnson did not run for reelection and left office in 1969. Source:

My Lai Massacre
On March 16, 1968 a unit of the Americal Division's 11th Infantry Brigade arrived in My Lai where the 48th Viet Cong Battalion was thought to be. The American unit killed as many as 504 Vietnamese in the My Lai Massacre as they were met with no resistence. Source:
