    Televisions
    In the year 1950, there was an outbreak of televisions in every home. The tv was made out of wood and also had a remote control. The radio was now something of the past the new tv brought everything to the eyes. Although it was black and white, color was not invented yet. Almost every house in the country had this television in their home.
  • The Korean War

    The Korean War
    On June 25, 1950 a war broke out between South and North Korea. North Korea was a communist country while the South was democratic. The country was divided into two through a 38th Parallel. The Northern part of Korea was supported by the Soviet Union. The Southern was supported by the United States. there were U.S. soldiers who were drafted to bring this country back together.
  • United Nations

    United Nations
    On January 9, 1951 the United Nations opened. It is located in New York. All of the allies meet up here to converse about the world problems. It is since created solutions for other countries and had them get along. The location is not apart of the U.S. because it is an international territory. On January 9, 2015 it will be the 64th anniversary of the U.N.

    22nd Amendment
    On February 27, 1951 President Harry Truman signed a law. This law stated no president should be elected more than twice. The time a President should stay in office is a total of 8 years. It was approved by Congress. The amendment was influenced by F.D.R.'s 3 terms. It is still used as of today.

    A famous movie created in 1952 hit theaters about the movie industry. It was about two silent movie stars going forth and becoming sound movie stars. The American comedy was loved by everyone. The movie ended up turned into a broadway musical.

    On November 4, 1952 Dwight Eisenhower ran for President as a Republican. The Vice President was Richard Nixon. They won the election. Eisenhower and Nixon ran for two terms through 1953-1961. He was the 34th president of the United States. He was the last President to be born in the 19th century.

    A long awaited ending finally came. The Korean War had finally ended on June 27, 1953. The 38th parallel was destroyed. After Eisenhowers many threats there was an agreement signed. This agreement stated China, North Korea, and South Korea to end the war. A victory of the United States once again.

    After the great success of the first tv. The new colored tv was even better. On December 17, 1953 it was available for sale. RCA created the tv and were broadcasting on old tvs. The cost of the tv was $500. Every one wanted to buy it.

    “The Supreme Court had ruled the "separate but equal" law of Plessy for public education, and it required the desegregation of all schools in America. This was a time when segregation was still a thing and was looked down on. After James Brown entered an all white school it caused racial tension making a difference.

    A day that will live in infamy was the day a NAACP leader was arrested for not giving up her seat on the bus. African Americans were required to sit in the back of the bus or stand up even though there were seats all around. She was a tired lady after a long day of work decided to go ahead and sit down. When told to give up her seat by the bus driver she refused and was arrested afterwards.

    There was always a fight between communism and capitalism after World War 2. After Nikita Khrushchev took over power of the Soviet Union he made it clear he wanted to spread communism. It was all around Europe that he planned to spread it and that was not going to go by the U.S. commands. They wanted to make sure there was not communism spreading all around the World.
  • Hungarian Revolution

    Hungarian Revolution
    When Russia took control of Poland and began to force their Communist beliefs on the Polish people. There was a revolt forced and led by Prime Minister Imre Nagy. After his arrest by Russian forces on this day, the revolt abruptly ended. It was a sign to show the Russian the Polish would not be dealing with their rules and want to own their own land.

    The beginning of the Vietnam War sparked when the South had gone communist. They established a Communist government and were now funded by the Soviet Union. The North was democratic but had a leader which was not very friendly. The leader was a dictator and the difference of Governments caused both sides to fight with eachother.

    The beloved musical that was known by everone was now available for you to go see live. Putting it on Broadway brought the Musical to life and made it pop. It was quickly a number 1 seller topping all of the charts and a full house everytime there was a show.

    At the time the President Eisenhower had sent troops to Little Rock, Arkansas to make sure the African American children were going to school safely. The children were entering a space that was completely brand new and a different environment for them. They were booed, spit, and even physically hurt but the troops were there to save them.

    Brooklyn Dodgers Move to L.A.
    After winning multiple series and notorious for their playing. The New York Giants and the Brooklyn Dodgers were both asked to leave and go to San Francisco. The giants refused but the Dodgers were gone and ready to now play on the West Coast.

    On this day a rocket named Sputnik was launched into the Space, It is a sattelite and also the second spacecraft sent into Space. It was also the first to ever carry a living animal into Space. The dog's name was Laika.

    Mercury Little Joe 1A, test of launch escape system; launched from Wallops Island, VA. There was a total of 8 successful launches of the Little Joe rocket and 2 failures. There were not many different kinds of rockets but this one in particular was a test.

    President and Mrs. Kennedy arrive for inaugural ball John F. Kennedy narrowly defeats Richard Nixon for the presidency. In his inaugural address, Kennedy declares that Americans will be ready to "...bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty."

    It was a plot to invade Cuba and overthrow Fidel Castro which went miserably wrong when air support at the Bay of Pigs fails to materialize. Kennedy's leadership skills are called into question, and Kennedy himself develops doubts about heeding the advice of the military.

    A program geared toward young college individuals to go on and pursue a career. Also in other third world countries by helping the unfortunate individuals learn about the U.S. It was a launch to get foreigners more comfortable with us and want to come to our country.

    One of the first black graduates were at the University of Mississippi. It was a big achievement in the civil rights world because it was the first time in a very long time there was a big achievement like this happening. After all was finished James Meredith went on to recieve his bachelors from there.

McNamara meet about Cuban missle crisis Photos taken from a U.S. spy plane revealing the Soviets placing offensive missiles in Cuba. Kennedy orders a naval quarantine around Cuba to prevent the Soviets from delivering additional missiles.
  • President Kennedy Assasinated

    A mournful day in the American world was the day President Kennedy was assasinated in Dallas Texas. He was only 45 years old and was not into a full term of his Presidency. The couple were in a rooftop car when the shots were hit into the President's head and killed him
  • The Voting Rights Act

    In this video it explains all of the events leading up to the Voting Rights Act becoming a thing. It allowed African Americans to be able to vote just like the regular people and did not make them take standardized tests. Now they were free after The Civil Rights Act of 1964. Thanks to President Johnson this made it easier for everyone else to have the same rights as their peers.
  • Miranda Rights

    The Miranda Rights was created in 1966 as a result of the United States Miranda v. Arizona. Ernesto Miranda was charged for kidnapping and rape and stated that suspects should be informed of their legal rights when they are placed under arrest. The Miranda Rights is to protect the suspect’s Fifth Amendment right to refuse to answer self-incriminating questions. The Miranda rights come from the British Magna Carta.

    This was the first Super Bowl ever played. The game was between the Green Bay Packers and the Kansas City Cheifs. The Green Bay Packers won. This started a whole new history revolution because every year people anticipate for this day to come and for them to be able to watch tv and see if their teams are winning
  • Buddhists Protest against Diem

    Tensions between Buddhists and the Diem government are further strained as Diem, a Catholic, removes Buddhists from several key government positions and replaces them with Catholics. Buddhist monks protest Diem's intolerance for other religions and the measures he takes to silence them. In a show of protest, Buddhist monks start setting themselves on fire in public places.
  • Woodstock Musical Festival

    In 1969, a music festival where more than half a million people came together to show how a generation could be heard. Woodstock was the pop culture music event of the decade. Act’s from all over the world met at Max Yasgur’s farm in Bethel, NY on August 15th-18th for a celebration of peace and music.
  • Sesame Street

    The show “Sesame Street” aired on T.V. The show was created by Joan Cooney trying to create programming for preschoolers that would be both entertaining and educational. Sesame Street was a group of funny segment featuring puppet, animations shorts, and guest actors. The set was a fake New York neighborhood.
