    Richard B. Russell
    He was governor of Georgia and a U.S. senator. He helped prepare the U.S. fight in WWII. Also, he brought 15 military bases in Georgia along with other research facilities. He has a park named after him, Richard B. Russell State Park.

    The Holocaust was a mass murder of over 6 million Jews in Europe. Concentration camps imprisoned Jews and made them work until their death. Concentration and death camps were used to execute Jews, gypsies, homosexual, and political dissidents. Jews were sent to ghettos before concentration camps.

    World War II started with the invasion of Poland by Germany and continuous declarations of war on Germany by France and the United Kingdom.The United States wanted to stay out of it, but after Pearl Harbor, they joined the war against Japan. The United States was against Japan and Germany. There were two sides, the Allied Powers and the Axis Powers.

    The lend-lease program was a program in which the United States supplied France, Great Britain, China, USSR, and other Allied nations with food, oil, and materials. In exchange, these countrie gave the United States base rights in the countries' military bases.     D-Day was the first time in WWII the Allied troops threatened Germany's control of Europe. Up until then, the fighting took place far away from the German border. D-Day was important militarily and psychologically because it was seen as the turning point of the whole war. It was the day all the Allied troops took Germany by surprise and invaded Germany.

    The Yalta Conference was a meeting of the heads of goverment of United States, United Kingdom, and Soviet Union to disucss Europe's post-war reorganization. It was held in the Livadia Palace. The meeting was intended to mainly discuss the re-establishment of the nations of Europe after the war.

    He was known for being the "Father of Two Ocean Navy." He continued to be involved in military matters until he retired for Congress in 1964. He received Presidential Medal of Freedom and had a U.S. nuclear powered aircraft carrier named after him.

    Atlanta Falcons were founded
    The Atlanta Falcons are from Atlanta, Georgia and their mascot is the Falcon. Julia Elliott, a high school teacher from Griffin, Georgia, suggested the name "Falcons." The Falcons beat the VIkings in the 1999 Super Bowl.
