The Inustrial Revolution was the beginning of developing and using power-driven machinery. This development made it to where people no longer had to use human and animal power for a main energy sources. During this time, the first energy sources used were water and steam. -
1st successful steam engine is built
James Watt, while not the creator of the steam engine, imoroved the engine. This invention allowed the building of factories anywhere, not just on a river. Factories being built anywhere meant workers no longer had to travel many miles to get to work. -

The Qing dynasty had failed to resist the western powers. Many chinese had thought that the Qing dynasrty had lost the madate of heaven because of this. The rebels, British and the French all fought, although they lost, they did a lot of damage to the dynasty. -
Sepoy mutiny in India
The Sepoys, or Indian soldiers, were angered at the creation of the British rifle. Reloading the rifles included biting a cartridge that had beef and pork fat on it, which offended the Sepoys. This mutiny had taken over Delhi in a short time. -
Karl Marx's "Das Kapital'
Karl Marx was against capitalism, and he made his arguments through this book. He proclaimed that capitalism causes problems in the relationship between labor and profit. He put forth the idea that socialism would help the world. -
The Meiji Restoration
He was called Emporer Meiji, or enlightened rule, during his reign. He brought the position of emporer back into power. He wanted to reform and modernize Japan. -
Franco-Prussian War
A conflict with France over the land of Alsace and Loraine. These lands were part of the Holy Roman Empire along with Prussia. This war led to a treaty that unified the German empire. -
Spanish-American War
Began when the U.S battleship Maine exploded mysteriously and the blame was put on the Spanish. Spain was a disaster, they lost in Cuba, and theyre navy was defeated in the Phillipines. The war was over within 3 months. -
Boxer rebellion
The Boxers where a secret society that wanted to restore China to its former glory. They used martial arts and hatred to attack christians. The rebellion ended with more humiliation for China. -

The Americans were angered at the Germans for attacks on ships carrying American passengers. The Germans were using U-Boats to attack the British navy. These attacks on Americans is what brought them into the war. -
Mussolini’s Fascist Party in Italy
Mussolini wanted glorious and great Italian empire. The party took its name from the latin word fasces. Fasces referred to an ancient Roman symbol for unity and strength. -
Treaty of Versailles is signed
The treaty was named for the place the signing took place, the French Palace of Versailles. Germany was forced to pay a huge amount of money to all the victims. Germany was also had full blame placed on them. -
Stalin’s rule in the USSR begins
Valdimir Lenin had died shortly after the Communist Soviet Union had been formed. He worked to turn the Soviet Union into a totalitarian state. He wanted to control every aspect of Soviet life. -

Consumer spending had been slowed and producct sales had suffered. On this day, 16 million shares were sold off by investors. This ruined many investors. -
Hitler becomes chancellor of Germany
He claimed that the Germans were the "master" race. He promised to rebuild Germany's military. The Nazi party soon became very popular and giving Hitler his positon as chancellor. -
