    Sectionalism was the loyalty to beliefs of a certain region, rather than the whole country, and caused many big disagreements. Some disagreements actually threatened the unity of the country.

    the oregon trail was a pathway to the west that many followed in search of a new life in the west. it was a very long and rough trail, and people could bring very few, yet so many people followed it, helping shape our country.

    Nationalism was the strong beleif of the U.S. People belived that the U.S, could do anything, and that our counrty was above all others, Strong Patriots and people with strong beliefs would be a part of nationalism.

    the adams onis treaty was a deal between the U.S. and Spain that gave the U.S. Flordia territory. This treaty created a border between the U.S. and Spain.

    this was a supreme court case where a man rebeled against the federal bank tax. the bank ended up winning the case, setting a precident for future cases.

    the missouri compromise was an agreement reached that allowed for missouri to be a slave state, and that Maine would be a free state. the compromise also said that slavery was outlawed in the rest of the louisiana purchase.

    this is a trail that went from missouri to new Mexico, and was a pathway to the west. the trail not only helped shape the west with people, but also with goods, as it served as a trading route.

    the monroe doctrine was a foriegn policy that said, any further collinization of european counrties in america, would be taken as acts of war. this Policy basically stopped any more collinization in america, giving all of the land to the U.S.

    this was a goverment agency created for the one purpose of manage indian removal. it shows just how much america wanted the land, and how fast they wanted it.

    this is what they called the spread of democracy at this time. Jackson was a very average person that was elected, and laws continued to change, allowing more sand more people to vote.

    Spoils system was the practice of giving goverement jobs to people who support them politically. this would grow the party in which they are in, in an unfair way.

    this was a doctrine created, that stated any powers not delegated to federal goverment, and not prohibited by the state, are reserved to the states. Mainly southjereners supported it, as they wanted more state goverment power.

    this act was passed, and authorized the removal of indians who lived east of the missisipi river. this would open up the west, but also ruin the indians homes.

    indian territory was land established by congress for indians to move to. the territory was for the indians to move to after they got removed from their homeland.

    this was a confrontation between the natioanl goverment, and south carolina under Jacksons term. South Carolina had declarered that the tariffs were uncostitutional.

    this was a group that thought Jackson was to much like a king, and they wanted a stronger congress and weaker president. they also wanted to get a leader in the next election, but failed.

    the battle of the Alamo was an important battle during the texas revouloution. many texans joined up with the army to help fight the meicans, and ended up defeating the mexicans.

    the trail of tears was the name given to a 800 mile long journey, that the Cherokee tribe had to take when they were being removed from their homeland. about a quarter of the entire group died along the trail, showing how brutal the U.S. was.

    Manifest destiny was the term used with the U.S. during this time period. it was used to describe the thrive to stretch from coast to coast.

    the donner party was a group of 90 people who set out for the west. they thought they had a shorter passage to the west, but got trapped by snow and had to go to cannibalism to survive.

    the california gold rush was a name given to a time when gold was discovered in california, and lots of people went in search of more gold. this event helped shape the west, due to the large amount of people that moved west.

    the group of people who moved west in search of gold was so large that they earned thier own name, and now the name is continued in use in a football team.

    the Gadsden purchase was a deal between the united states and mexico that gave the U.S. land south of arizona, for ten million dollars.
