  • Louisiana Purchase

    The US wanted to take control of New Orleans from France, but Napoleon, the leader of France was low on money due to many wars, so he offered the entire Louisiana territory to the US for 15 millions dollars, this doubled the land of the US
  • War of 1812

    U.S. declared war on Britain over Britain's interference and prevention of American shipping to Europe and over their interference of America's westward expansion. Many important events took place during this war. For one, Washington D.C. got captured by the British and the White House and Capital Building were set on fire. Another event that happened was Francis Scott Key wrote the Star-Spangled Banner as he watched Britain's attack on Fort McHenry at Baltimore.
  • First Public Railroad System

    With the US increasing in size, the US wanted to create a vast Railroad system form Baltimore to Ohio. This is was the first public railroad system is the US, which led to more Westward expansion. This was a key factor in the future Industrial Revolution.
  • Texas Annexation

    America wanted the northern province of Texas but the Mexican government refused to sell Texas. But, by 1823 some 3000 Americans were living in Texas. The Mexican government could not stop the illegal immigrants from America to trespass into Texas.The Texas War for Independence started. Many battles caused many deaths for the Texans. The turning point of the War was the Battle of San Jacinto where general Santa anna was captured, Texas gained independence, and Texas was Annexed to the US in 1845
  • The Mexican American War

    Mexican-American War, also called Mexican War, stemming from the United States’ annexation of Texas in 1845 and from a dispute over whether Texas ended at the Nueces River or the Rio Grande. The war resulted in the United States’ acquisition of more than 500,000 square miles of Mexican territory extending westward from the Rio Grande to the Pacific Ocean.
  • California Gold Rush

    In the Mexican Province of Alta California, along the south fork of the American River, Indian workers discovered gold. Nine days later California would be labeled the Great Prize transferred to the US through the treaty in the Mexican-American War. The Gold Rush was the Greatest mass migration in American history, and California produced half of the worlds output of gold, and the US supply of gold increase 20 times.
  • Gadsden Purchase

    The Gadsden Purchase, or Treaty, was an agreement between the United States and Mexico in which the United States agreed to pay Mexico $10 million for a 30000 square mile portion of Mexico that later became part of Arizona and New Mexico.
  • Kansas Nebraska Act

    The Transcontinental Railroad was wanting to be made, but the rest of the US had to be settled first, so Senator Stephen Douglas of Illinois urged congress to pass the Kansas-Nebraska Act so the territory west of Missouri and Iowa could be settled. As a result of this the Whig Party was faded out, and in its place would emerge the Republicans.
  • Confederate States are Formed

    11 States had seceded from the US and the Confederate States were made. Jefferson Davis was elected president.
  • Civil War

    The Civil War was the conflict between the North (the Union) and the South (the Confederacy) over the expansion of slavery into western states and over the preservation of the Union. This war was had a higher fatality rate out of all of the wars fought in America combined. This sad event shaped our government for the better and opened the eyes of Americans to the brutality of slavery.
