    A conflict that broke out between the United States and its allies, and the United Kingdom, Ireland, and their allies. The war started because of the violations of US maritime rights. The war ended when the countries exchanged ratifications for the Treaty of Ghent.
  • First Public Railroad System

    First Public Railroad System
    Construction began on the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. This is the first public railroad in the U.S. It was a key factor in America's westward expansion and it made trade much easier and less expensive. This threw America into the Industrial Revolution as well as changed the face of this once primitive land.

    A conflict between the United States and Mexico. The war started because of the dispute between the border of Texas with Mexico and the Westward Expansion. The Mexican army decided to attack the United States, but did not win, as the United States army was way stronger and smarter.

    California Gold Rush
    It was a gold rush that started when gold was founded in Coloma, California, by a guy named James W. Marshall. As a result of this, it brought over 300,000 people west in attempt to get rich off of the gold.

    Gadsden Purchase
    An agreement between the United States and Mexico. The United States agreed to pay Mexico $10 million for a little under 30,000 square miles of territory in New Mexico and Arizona.

    Election of 1860
    It was a four way contest between Abraham Lincoln, John Bell, John Breckinridge, and Stephen Douglas. Lincoln won the election with the most electoral votes and became the 16th president of the United States.
