    The Louisiana Purchase was a land deal between France and the United States for the land west of Missisipi. It costed 15 million dollars and was purchased by president Thomas Jefferson.

    The War of 1812 was a war between the United States and the British. It was started over the British restricting Americas trading and holding their soldiers captive. The war ended in 1815 with the Treaty of Peace and Amity.
  • Missouri Compromise

    Missouri Compromise
    The Missouri Compromise was put into place to keep the power in the congress equal. It admitted Missouri into the United States as a slave state, and in return Maine was a free state.
  • Compromise of 1850

    Compromise of 1850
    The Compromise of 1850 was made up of five bills attempting to resolve some of the disputes between slave and free states. It made New Mexico into a state by redrawing Texas's state lines, it allowed Utah and New Mexico to decide whether they were a free or slave state for themselves, and it admitted California in as a free state.

    Kansas-Nebraska Act
    The Kansas-Nebraska act voided the previous Missouri Compromise and made two new territories: Kansas and Nebraska. This act allowed both new territories to decide whether they would be pro or against slavery. This resulted in what was known as "Bleeding Kansas".

    The Civil war started in 1861 and ended in 1865. This 4 year long war fought on U.S. territory only, is the most bloody war in Americas history. The war started when the southern states started seceding in response to the government not representing them politically. The war would finally end when the Confederacy would surrender to the Union.
  • Emancipation Proclamation

    Emancipation Proclamation
    The Emancipation Proclamation was a decree signed by Abraham Lincoln stating that all enslaved persons in the rebellious states would henceforth be free. This proclamation was not followed by the southern states as they fought but it was the start to freeing all slaves and ending slavery.
  • Lincoln Assassinated

    Lincoln Assassinated
    Just 5 days after the Confederacy surrendered to the Union Lincoln was assassinated. John Wilkes Booth shot and killed Abraham Lincoln at Fords Theatre sending the country into dismay.

    After many years of work the Transcontinental Railroad was finally complete. The railroad stretched across the entire U.S. unifying it.
