    Johnson made a speech and said he would not be running for office again. Many thought this was because he knew he couldn't win again because of his quickly declining popularity.

    Dr. Martin Luther King jr. was shot by James Earl Ray while he was standing out on a balcony of his hotel.
  • Robert Kennedy Death

    Robert Kennedy was in the lead for the Democratic nomination for president when he was shot and killed. This took place not long after MLK's death.

    Many young men being drafted for the war burned there draft cards or just refused to go. They did this because many didn't support the war.

    The republican candidate, Nixon, won because he wanted to unify the country and restore law and order.
  • 26th Amendment

    The 26th amendment lowered the voting age from 21 to 18. They passed this law because people were being drafted at age 18 but didn't have a say about the people being elected to draft them.
