The US embargoed the Cubans, but the soviets still planed to send ships. The US made a blockade and at the last minute the ships turned away. It is impotent because it we were the closest we had ever been to nuclear war. We also had a direct line to the Soviet Union. It affected Americans society because it showed we could beat the Soviets and democracy is better. -
