Crimean War
The Crimean War was October 1853 – February 1856. It was a conflict between the Russian Empire, the French Empire, the British Empire, the Ottoman Empire, the Kingdom of Sardinia, and the Duchy of Nassau. The war was part of a contest between the European powers for territories of the Ottoman Empire. Most of the conflict took place on the Crimean Peninsula. -

The American Civil War began on April 12, 1861. It was also known as the War between the States. -
End of Civil War
Most consider Lee's surrender on April 9, 1865 the end of the war. Even though the Army of Northern Virginia surrendered on April 9th there were still Confederate Forces in the field until June. Confederate General Stand Watie surrendered on June 23, 1865 when the last major fighting occurred. -
Austro-Prussian War
The Austro-Prussian War or 7 Weeks War was a war fought between the German Confederation under the Austrian Empire and its German allies that resulted in Prussian winning over the German states. In Italian unification, this is called the Third Independence War. -
Canada's Independence
Canada gained independence from Britain in 1967. After the Canadians showed strength in the world wars, Britain gave independence to Canada later on. The strength shown by the Canadians showed Britian that Canada can stand by itself without the help of Britian or the rest of the european countries. -

The Franco-Prussian War was a conflict between France and Prussia that created the rise of German power and imperialism. It was started by Otto von Bismarck as part of his plan to create a unified German Empire. -
End of Italian Unification
Italian unification was the political and social movement that made different states of the Italian peninsula into the single state of Italy. Many scholars agree that the process ended sometime around 1871 with the Franco-Prussian War. -
Dreyfus Affair in France
The Dreyfus affair was a scandal that divided France. It was the conviction for treason in November 1894 of Captain Alfred Dreyfus, a French artillery officer. He was sentenced to life imprisonment for communicating French military secrets to the German Embassy in Paris. He was sent to the penal colony at Devil's Island in French Guiana and placed in solitary confinement. -
Northern Ireland becomes Independent
Northern Ireland gained Independence from Britian in 1949. Ireland was controlled by Britain for several centuries. Many people left and went to the United States, Only some wanted Independence. Through the Ireland Act and War, they became Independent. -
Australia's Independence
Australia gained complete independence from Britain. It began with Federation, when the six states came together as one federated nation, under an Australian Prime Minister. They did not achieve full independent until March 1986, when the Australia Acts came into effect, terminating all British over Australia.
