Helen Keller was born on June 27, 1880 near Tuscumbia, Alabama. -
Becomes Deaf and Blind
Still an infant, Helen acquired an illness which would leave her deaf and blind for the rest of her life. -
Started Education
In 1887, Keller began her intense education with a woman named Anne Sullivan. -
Reading and Writing
By the Age of ten, Helen could read and write in Braille. -
New Religion
In 1896, she adopted the Swedenborgain fath. -
First Book
In 1903, Helen wrote her first novel about her life titled "Story of My Life". -
Second Book
In 1908, she published her second book titled, "The World I Live In". -
Joined Socialist Party

Resigned
In 1914 Helen resigned from the Socialist Party and joined the Industrial Works of the World. -
Teacher's Death
During the year of 1936, Sullivan, who had helped Helen through her biggest life struggle, passed away. -
Third Publication
In 1955, she published another book, titled, "Teacher" in loving memory of Sullivan who had passed several years before. -
Award
In 1964 she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Lyndon Johnson. -
