  • Santa Ana elected president

    Santa Anna was elected the president of Mexico, and would remain the president for four terms. He was a powerful Latin American caudillo. He was overthrown by Benito Juarez.
  • Texas is annexed into the U.S.

    After the U.S. defeated the Mexicans in the Mexican-American war, a result was Texas being annexed into the U.S..
  • Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo

    This treaty gave the U.S. the west. The treaty was made as a peace treaty as a result of the Mexican-American war.
  • Santa Ana overthrown by Benito Juarez

    Benito Juarez overthrew Santa Anna, the president of Mexico. Benito created the idea of La Reforma. Benito was a Native American from Oaxaca.
  • Napoleon III has Archduke Maximilian become emperor of Mexico

    Juarez refused to recognize his rule. There was great resistance from the Mexicans.
  • Porfirio Diaz comes to power

    Diaz, an Indian from Oaxazca came to power throught the army. He was a general in the war and fought against the French. Diaz did not agree with Juarez. Diaz had more radical land reforms.
  • Caranza comes into power

    Caranza promotd land reforms, worker's rights, and education. He revised Mexico's constitution.
  • Obregon comes into power

    Obregon supported reforms. He promoted education. He came to power by taking the power himself but not violently.
