Revolutionary War
There was no president during the Revolutionary War. However there was George Washington, a great general in the war. He earned a lot of trust and a lot of respect from many people throughout the war. If it was not for him the U.S. wouldn't have won many of the battles. George Washington was such a great man and a great leader that when the war was over, he became the United States of America's first president. -
The Civil War
President Abraham Lincon was president at this time. He won the election which made southern states mad. Southern states (such as Florida, South Carolina, Texas, etc.) became a union called the Confederate States. The attack on Fort Sumter was the start of this war. By the end of the war the Norhtern states won and Lincon ended slavery. -
U.S. Enters World War I
Woodrow Wilson proclaimed America's entrance into World War I. He said it was a crusade to make the world "safe for democracy." -
The Great Depression
Trying to put an end to the Great Depression, president Roosevelt established social welfare measures, touched every aspect of American life, and was flexible with his leadership. The federal government provided direct relief and federally funded jobs to the needy. -
World War II
Franklin D. roosevelt spelled out Anglo-American war goals in concert with Winston Churchill in the Atlantic Charter. The Charter vowed permanent security against aggression and freedom from privation.
