    As part of Tony Blair's reform of the House of Lords the House of Lords Act 1999 ends the right of hereditary peers to vote in the Lords. The bill stated that "No-one shall be a member of the House of Lords by virtue of a hereditary peerage." Membership of the House of Lords was once a right of birth to hereditary peers and included several hundred members who inherited their seats.
