MacArthur was an American General. He commanded the Allied forces. His public statements didn't meet the policy, so Truman fired him. -

When the Cold War started, Britain developed an atomic bomb. They wanted to be able to have power. They also made a hydrogen bomb. -
The Invasion of Hungary
This was also known as the Hungarian Revolution. Eastern Europe Communist countries didn't agree with Khrushchev's policy. Later, Russian troops were sent in. -

The Space Race started with the Soviet Union launching the sputnik. The U.S. didn't want them to be more advanced. Soon after we launched a rocket. -

The Sputnik was the first space satellite. The Soviet Union made the Sputnik and launched it into space. This started the Cold War between the U.S. and the U.S.S.R. -

The U-2 plane was being used to spy on Russia. Te plane was shot down by the Soviets. Francis Gary Powers was the man driving the plane. He was sentenced 10 years in prison. -
Berlin Wall
The communist German government constructed the Berlin Wall. The wall was used to divide east and west Berlin. It was constructed in the early period of the Cold War. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
The U.S. and the U.S.S.R almost started a nuclear war. This could have resulted in the World ¨ending¨. The Soviet Union wanted Cuba to help them and bomb us. John Kennedy helped stop them from dropping a bomb. -

The use of this treaty was to stop the spread of nuclear weapons. This treaty was used internationally. Some countries didn't want to participate. -
Richard Nixon Election
Richard Nixon was elected president in 1968. He beat out the other candidates. This election shocked most because no one htought he would win. -
SALT Treaty
This treaty limited the use of nuclear weapons. Richard Nixon and the Soviet General Secretary signed this treaty. This treaty restrained the arms race.
