Japan was planning on taking out the U.S's naval fleets in the Pacific, but the U.S wasable to counter this and cripple Japan's navy and turn the tables in the Pacific to where the Allied Powers were now on offense and the Axis were on defense. -

Atomic Bommbing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki
The U.S dropped 2 atomic bombs on Japan. One over Hiroshima and one over Nagasaki. They did so in an attempt to stop fighting in the war and put an official end to it. -
VJ Day
The war ended in August and on September 2nd, there was a formal surrender of Japn on the USS Missouri, for this reason, president Truman declared September 2nd as VJ Day. -

On Augusrt 13, 1961, the communist government of Germany put up a wall bettwen the eastern, communist part of Berlin and the western, "fascist" part of Berlin. The wall fell on November 9, 1989 and citizens of both parts of Berlin were able to cross this old border. -

This was a 13 day standoff between the United States and USSR because of the USSR's nuclear missles being installed in Cuba. -
