  • Armistice is signed

    At the 11th hour, on the 11th day, on the 11th month, World War I ends.
  • The Treaty of Versailles

    The big four America, Britain, France and Italy met in the Hall of Mirrors, which is located in France, inside the Palace of Versailles to sign a document that would signal the end of World War I. This meant that Australian troops could go home and continue their lives before they were shipped off to various fighting locations.
  • Benito Mussolini is made Italian Premier

    King Victor Emmanuel makes Benito Mussolini the Premier of Italy, starting the era of Fascist Italy.
  • Joseph Stalin takes control of the Soviet Government

    Stalin defeats opponent Leon Trotsky and becomes Vladimir Lenin’s successor. His reign of terror begins.
  • The Great Depression (Germany)

    The fall of Wall Street signalled the start of the Great Depression, Germany was on its own to finish the repairs. Germans lost their jobs, money became meaningless and saving accounts were wiped.
  • The Great Depression (Australia)

    Even before the stock market crash in Wall Street, ten percent of the population was already unemployed. Australians had no jobs and the male population eventually gave up trying to get an income. Most of them would play cards in the kitchen, drink alcohol and waste their already small money on meaningless bets. The woman, in the meantime, were still doing their house hold jobs and sometimes would go and scrub wealthy aristocrats floors to earn money.
  • Hitler is appointed Chancellor of Germany

    President Hindenburg decided to appoint Adolf Hitler as Chancellor of Germany because he thought that it would be easier to control him. He was wrong.
  • Japan invades China

    The invasion of China is the beginning of the Pacific front in World War II.
  • Germany invades Poland

    Germany’s invasion of Poland was the start of the European front in World War II.
  • Declaration of war on Germany

    Due to Germany’s invasion of Poland, Britain and France declare war on Germany before Hitler’s reign can spread.
  • Mass murder of Jews

    The largest Jewish death camp at Auschwitz is established and in use.
  • The bombing of Pearl Harbour

    The Japanese bomb a US navy port in hopes that America will have no sea defence.
  • Australia declares war on Japan

    Due to the bombing of Pearl Harbour, fear of a Japanese invasion settle into the hearts of the Australian population. Prime Minister John Curtin makes an address saying that Australia has declared war on Japan.
  • The Fall of Singapore

    The British Pacific base surrenders to the Japanese.
  • Recapture of Kokoda

    Australian troops recapture Kokoda and force the Japanese back.
  • Surrender of Italy

    Italy surrenders to the Allied powers and switches to their side, the enemy of their previously allied friend.
  • Death camp at Auschwitz is liberated

    The Jewish death camp at Auschwitz is liberated by Allied forces (the Soviet Union).
  • Russia invades Berlin, Germany

    This event is considered to be the bloodiest and cruellest battle that occurred during World War II by historians. Horrible crimes were committed and ethics were totally disregarded.
  • Hitler commits suicide

    Hitler commits suicide because he knew he had been defeated.
  • German forces surrender

    German soldiers sign their surrender in the Allied headquarters in Reims, France that would take effect the next day. The Second World War stops in Europe.
  • The atomic bomb is dropped

    An atomic bomb is dropped on the Japanese town of Hiroshima by a US fighter pilot.
  • Japan surrenders

    Due to the Hiroshima bombings and threats of another atomic bomb being dropped on Japan again, the proud country surrenders. The war in the Pacific ends.
