  • Torpedoes

    -Invented by Robert Whitehead
    -Torpedoes are explosive missiles launched from submarines
    -Used during WWI and WWII to sink enemy ships

  • Machine Gun

    -Invented by Hiram Maxim
    -Used during WWI
    -Somtimes used as defense to attack planes

  • Smokeless Power

    -Invented by Paul Vieille
    -He called it Poudre B
    -This powder created little smoke when the gun was fired
    -Also increased accuracy of gun

  • The Zeppelin

    -First flew in 1900
    -Used during WWI to bomb cities
    -Created by Ferdinand von Zeppelin

  • Plane

    -Invented by Wilbur and Orville Wright in 1903
    -Eventually used during WWI and WWII by spies
    -Also used to bomb and gun down enemies

  • U-boat

    -1906 is the year Germany issued the first u-boat to its fleet
    -These boats were used to sink enemy mechant ships
    -These were used in WWI and WWII

  • Trench Warfare

    -Holes were dug in the ground and tunnels were made that connected to each other.
    -Sandbags were placed in front of the trench to stop erosion
    -Underground dugouts were made
    -In between trenches was called No Man's Land

  • Tear Gas Grenades

    -The French were the first to use the Tear Gas Grenades.
    -They used the gas against the Germans.
    - Would blind the victim

  • Railroad Guns

    -In 1915, Fritz Rausen­berger had successfully mated several modified naval gun designs with railroad mountings to develop the first in a series of long-range railroad guns.
    -This is significant to WW1 because these were deloyed as part of the enormous artillery forces (over 1,220 guns) arrayed against Verdun.
    -On February 21, 1916 these weapons broadcasted to the German Offensive.

  • Tear Gas

    -Germans first used tear gas against the French on the Eastern Front.

  • Poison Gas

    -The first poison gas (chlorie) was made and used in the 2nd Battle of Ypres.
    -Inhaling the chlorie would destroy the victim's respiratory organs, bringing on choking attack.

  • Flammenwerfer

    -The German used the portable Flammenwerfer.
    -It had a cylinder tube that was carried on the back of a soilder and had a lit hand held nozzle that was attached .

  • Tank

    -Utilized during WWI
    -Was first used by the British Army in combat .
    -The Tank was used a front-line defence.
    -Used to mobilize troops
    -Also used to cross no man's land to enemy territory

  • Mustard Gas

    -Mustard Gas was first used by the Germans againast the Russians.
    -Mustard Gas caused blisters internally and externally.
