    A railway gun, also called a railroad gun, is a large artillery piece, often surplus naval artillery, mounted on, transported by, and fired from a specially designed railway wagon.

    The first tanks were used by the British during World War I as a way of attacking enemy trenches. They were called tanks to trick the Germans into thinking they were water carriers for areas where water was hard to move or find in large amounts. A tank is covered in thick armour to protect it from enemy weapons.

    It was invented in 1919 by John T. Thompson. The thompson had a few nicknames including, "The Tommy Gun", "The Trench Boom", "The Trench Sweeper", "Chicago Piano", "Chicago Typewriter", and "The Chopper". They had a sustained fire of 450–600 rounds per minute, allowing defenders to cut down attacking waves of enemy troops like a scythe cutting wheat.
