Japanese invasion of China (1937)
One reason why Japan invaded China was because of China's resources. Japan did not have the natural types or resources that Japan did, therefore, the decision was made to invade. This would give Japan access to these resources. -
Rape of Nanking
On December 9, 1937 the Japanes army captured the City of. For the next 6 weeks the Japanese army went sacked the city. thousands of people were murdered, and many of the surviving women and even young girls were raped. Much of the city was burned. It happened because the Japanese saw themselves as a superior race and decided to take out other races. -
Kristallnacht

Germany's invasion of Poland
On September 1st, 1939, German forces crossed into Polish territory to officially begin World War 2. They attack Poland for expansion of more land. By the end of the invasion, 70,000 Poles were killed and 133,000 wounded by German troops. 100,000 escaped to Hungary, Romania, and Lithuania to join the Allied forces in western Europe. Only 14,000 Germans were killed and 30,000 wounded in the invasion. -
German Blitzkrieg
The blitzkrieg happened because Germany wanted to build its empire and felt that other European powers were restricting them. The pace at which the other powers 'allowed' Germany to expand was too slow for Germany's tastes and severely hampered their industrial expansion. By attacking the European countries directly, Germany would be able to gain access to many industrial resources such as the oil fields of the Middle East and the Ural mountains. -

The planning for Operation Barbarossa started on December 18, 1940. Barbarossa's goal was the rapid conquest of the European part of the Soviet Union west of a line connecting the cities of Arkhangelsk and Astrakhan. Pearl Harbor
The Japanese bombed the U.S. naval base Pearl Harbor in the Hawaii Islands December 7, 1941, with planes from Japanese 'aircraft carriers. The Japanese wanted to destroy the U.S. Navy's Pacific Fleet. It led to a declaration of war issued by the U.S. Congress December 8, 1941. The people of the U.S. were shocked. The people of Japan were elated. The fleet was not destroyed because the American aircraft carriers were not in port, they were on maneuvers. The Japanese wanted to control the Pacific. -

Bataan Death March
People were brutally abused and demolished during the walk. If people wanted water they had to get it from dirty streams filled with maggots, leeches or they'd get shot. The Bataan Death March occurred in order to transfer the 76,000 Filipino and American prisoners of war by the Imperial Japanese Army. This was done after the three months Battle of Bataan during World War II in the Philippines. This caused the death of very many prisoners. -
Battle of Midway
The Japanese were trying to capture the island for use as an air base for operations against Hawaii. They also hoped to draw the U.S. Pacific fleet into a battle where it could be destroyed. The U.S. had broken their codes , so they knew they were coming but they didn't know the U.S. knew. So The U.S. were able to send out three aircraft carriers against their four, but they didn't know the U.S. was there. After Midway, the US beat Japan back across the Pacific for the next three years. -
Battle of Stalingard
The Battle of Stalingrad was as battle of World War II between Nazi Germany and its allies, and the Soviet Union, for for control of the city of Stalingrad in southwestern Russia. The battle took place between 17 July 1942 and 2 February 1943. Hitler wanted to take Stalingrad because that city was a hub of transportation, it had resources and it was near the oil fields of the Caucasus region. Hitler planned to use it to supply his war effort and future dream for Germany. -

LiberatIon of concentration camps
People were so starved that some died afterward merely from eating more than their bodies could handle. Until the US entered the war, the sucide rate on the electric fences was quite high. Once word came that the Russians were close towards the end of the war, people tried to hang unto life until they could be rescued. A number of people during liberation were not at the camps where they'd been enslaved. -

The Battle of Okinawa, fought on the island of Okinawa in the Ryukyu Islands, was the largest fight during the Pacific campaign of World War II from March through June 1945. The battle of Okinawa was as a result of the Japanese invasion into the U.S mainland. It was the last major battle of World War II and it involved the use of the atomic bomb. A large number of people were killed and many others were injured. -

The v. j day which is abbreviation for victory over Japan is the day when Japan officially surrendered hence effectively ending World War Two. This day was on the 15th of august 1945. This day was the signing of the surrender document by the United States, countries in Western Europe, Newzealand and Australia.
