Trench Warfare
Usually referring to trenches, The soldiers would create protective places on the opposing line where the enemy fire couldn't get to. This created a sort of stalemate for the both sides in WWI. Thats why the US had to get involved. -
Sinking of Lusitania
German submarines attacked Great Britain's ship after Great Britain created a naval blockade against Germany. This was one of the reasons the US joined the war because 128 US citizens were on the boat. -
Zimmerman Telegram
This was a telegram from Germany sent to Mexico. Inside this telegram Germany asks that if they waged war with the US, that Mexico would too in return for the land the US stole back. This became one of the major reasons for the US to join the war because it showed that Germany was a threat to the US. -
Spanish Flu
This was one of the most deadly diseases in human history. It lowered the life expectancy in the US by about 12 years. This influenza was different because it mostly affected healthy young adults instead of the elderly and kids. That's because the flu resulted in an over aggressive immune system. It killed 50 to 100 million people. -
Fourteen points
President Wilson, after WWI created a list of 14 points to end WWI and to prevent a future war. Along with those points he helped make the League of Nations to communicate and prevent another war of that scale. The US, though, was not able to join because of it's isolationist mentality. -
Espionage and Sedation act
It targeted anyone who was against the wrong effort or the US government at the time. This was supposedly to help prevent interference with the war effort and to keep good apearances over seas. This act violated the 1st ammendment because it limited free speech . Shneck rebelled against this when he handed out flyers saying the draft was slavery and that the espionage act was against the first ammendment. He was found guilty. -
Treaty of Versailles
This was negotiation for the end of the war. Thoughost the terms were that Germany takes all responsibility for the war. This meant a huge war debt to pay off damages to the Entente. They also had to disarm and give up large amounts of territory they acquired. -
Women
The 19th ammendment gave women the right to vote and paved the way for women's rights in the government. During the war women had a big role to play. They helped pick up on the industries that the men couldn't do at war and helped create weapons. They also helped outside of their country and we're nurses for wounded soldiers.
