The Conquest of Belgrade
Suleiman captured Belgrade from the kingdom in Hungary in August of 1521. The capture was vital in eliminating the Hungarians, who were the only force blocking further Ottoman gains in Europe. The fall of Belgrade spread fear through all of Europe. The picture included represents the fall of Belgrade to Suleiman. -

Suleiman Conquers Rhodes
After Suleiman conquered Hungary he moved his focus to the Island of Rhodes. The island was the home base of the Knights Hospitaller whos pirate activities were causing problems for the Ottomans. During the summer of 1522 Suleiman sent out and armada of 400 ships and led 100,000 men to the island of Rhodes. After brutal encounters for 5 mounths Rhodes surrendered. -

Seige of Vienna
The Siege of Vienna was the Ottomans first attempt to capture the city of Vienna. The Siege was led by Suleiman and signaled the highest point of the Ottoman Empire. The seige was not successfull and it turned the tide of a century of Ottoman conquests. The picture included shows a clash between the Austraians and the Ottomans. -

The Ottoman Safavid War
Suleiman began focusing on the threat posed by the Safavid dynasty of Persia. Suleimna embarked on 3 campaigns during the war. Suleiman joined the first campaign, whos army successfully attacked Safavid iraq from 1532-1534. Suleiman embarked on the second campaign agains the Shah from 1548-1549. Suleimans third and final campagin was from 1553-1555. -

Hürrem Sultan (Roxelena)
Hürrem Sultan was the daughter of an orthodox preist and after being enslaved she rose throught the ranks of herem to become Suleiman's favorite. Breaking Ottoman tradition, she became the legal wife of Suleiman. She was a former concubine and remained with Suleiman at court for the rest of her life. The date above is not specific. -

Death of Suleiman
Suleiman died on either september 5th 1566 the night before the victory of the Battle of Szigetvar. Known as Suleiman the Magnificent and the law giver he was the 10th and longest reigning sultan of the Ottoman Empire. At the time of his death the Ottoman empire was one of the world's foremost powers because of his conquests. His sun Selim II became sultan after him.
