    Holocaust

    From 1933 to 1945, the Nazi State and its allies organized the Holocaust, which resulted in the intentional murder and persecution of 6 million Jews. The Nazis also killed millions of Roma and Sinti, in addition to the Jews, during their Holocaust. People with disabilities, homosexuals, Slavs, political opponents, and Jehovah's Witnesses were among the other excluded individuals who experienced persecution during this time.

    On September 1, 1939, German armies invaded Poland, starting World War II. As a result of German aggression, France and Great Britain declared war on Germany under Hitler. Nazi Germany had a massive military advantage over Poland.

    Japanese Internment Camps

    President Franklin D. Roosevelt created Japanese internment camps during World War II. The U.S. government had a policy of imprisoning people of Japanese origin, including citizens, in segregated camps from 1942 until 1945. The internment of Japanese Americans is regarded as one of the most horrific breaches of American civil rights in the 20th century. It was carried out in response to the attacks on Pearl Harbor and the subsequent war.

    Invasion of Soviet Union

    Nazi Germany unexpectedly attacked the Soviet Union, an ally in the war over Poland, on June 22, 1941. German forces had traveled hundreds of miles before the end of the year to reach Moscow's outskirts. Mobile murdering units started killing Soviet Jews in large numbers soon after the invasion.

    Operation Overload (D-Day)

    The allied armies' land, air, and sea forces came together on June 6, 1944, during the D-Day operation, to form the biggest invading force in history. Five naval assault divisions were deployed to the beaches of Normandy, France, as part of the operation known as OVERLORD.
