Japanese invasion of China
WHAT HAPPENED? Japan started war with China after an incident took place at Marco Polo Bridge.
WHY IT HAPPENED? Japan has a very imperialist country. they needed raw materials, and food.
AFTER EFFECTS? This event stirred up some things and brought other countries into this. Soon, World War II would be full in the making after what Japan did to Pearl Harbor.

Rape of Nanking
WHAT HAPPENED? in 1937, Japan invaded China and in December Japanese took over the capital. Roughly 300,000 died. The Japanese hastily slaughtered, drowned, raped, and set of fire many Chinese people.
WHY IT HAPPENED? The Rape of Nanking was part of the Japanese invasion of China. Japan was extremely imperialist.
AFTER EFFECTS? More than 300,000 died. Many places in China were decimated.

German Blitzkrieg
WHAT? The German Blitzkrieg was a military tactic that means lightning warfare. They would first strike by air and then troops would go on land.
WHY?It was a military tactic that helped the Germans further progress.
EFFECTS? The Blitzkrieg was successful in a lot of battles for the Germans but eventually the Germans had lost the war.

Germany's invasion of Poland
WHAT HAPPENED? Germany invaded Poland from both the ground and air.
WHY? Hitler wanted to regain lost territory and be in charge of Poland.
EFFECTS?Millions of people died. This was the start of world war II.

Fall of Paris
WHAT? German army invaded France.
WHY? This was part of Germany's power search and as Germans rolled in, Parisians were leaving as fast as they could.
EFFECTS? German forces took control. They continued their rampage. thousands were killed. -

WHAT? Meeting between several Nazi Germany government officials.
WHY? To figure out a "final solution" for the subject of the Jewish people.
EFFECTS? The "final solution" was to round up all of the Jews and exterminate them. -
Operation Barbarossa
WHAT? German troops marched into the Soviet Union trying to take control.
WHY? Germany wanted more land and to enslave the Slavic population
EFFECTS? This was a turning point of the war because the Germans had lost so now they have to fight a two front war. -
Pearl Harbor
WHAT? The Japanese surprise attack on U.S. Naval base.
WHY? This was Japanese retaliation after the United States stepped into the the violent problems Japan was having with China.
EFFECTS? Thousands of Americans died and more injured. After the attack, the U.S. asked congress to declare war.

Bataan Death March
WHAT?After the U.S. surrendered the Bataan Peninsula, Japanese troops forced 75,000 Filipino and American troops to walk 65 miles to prison camps.
WHY? The U.S. surrendered the peninsula.
EFFECTS? Thousands and thousands of people died. This fuled U.S. troops to make a comeback in 1945. -
Battle of Midway
WHAT? The U.S. defeated Japan in a battle. this was just 6 months after Pearl Harbor.
WHY? The U.S was in war with the Japanese. After Pearl harbor, the Americans wanted a win.
EFFECTS? The Americans were ready for the Japanese and were able to defeat them. -
Warsaw Ghetto Uprising
WHAT?Jewish retaliation to German troops as they were removed from ghettos to be transferred to concentration camps.
WHY? The Jewish people did not want to die. They didn't want to be treated like that by the Germans.
EFFECTS? Eventually German forces regained control.

Allied invasion of Italy
WHAT? When the allied forces invaded italy to stop the italiens.
WHY? Italy was part of the axis powers.
EFFECTS? Italy se retly surrendered but it wasnt publicly announced till months later -

WHAT? German attempt to break up the Allied forces by blitzkrieg
WHY? Germany wanted to win the war and further advance their troops.
EFFECTS? The U.S. held out and eventually won the battle.

Liberation of concentration camps
WHAT? When Allied forces liberate German concentration camps.
WHY? Millions of prisoners were inside these concentration camps and needed to be freed.
EFFECTS? By the end of 11945 all camps were liberated and millions were saved.

WHAT? The day some 160,000 troops from 3 nations of the allied forces landed of the beaches of Normandy.
WHY? France needed to be liberated.
EFFECTS? This was the start to the end of world war II. France was soon liberated.

WHAT? VJ Day is the day celebrating that the Allied forces had defeated Japan.
WHY? For sever years, Japan was a brutal country to others. they killed thousands--even millions in just a couple of years.
EFFECTS? This day became a celebratory day. The allied forces had won. -

WHAT? the U.S. landed of the shores and after a month, won.
WHY? The U.S. needed a base near the coast of japan.
EFFECTS?The U.S. had won and this was the battle in which the famous photo of our troops raising the flag came from. -
Battle of Okinawa
WHAT? The battle of Okinawa was the last battle. It was the U.S.'s last stop before reaching Japan.
WHY? The U.S. needed to secure the island. it was their last stop before reaching Japan.
EFFECTS? It was the last and the bloodiest battle. The day, Easter Sunday, proved to be successful to the Americans.

VE Day
WHAT? Victory in Europe day. This is when the Germans finally surrendered.
WHY? The Germans knew they could not continue against the allied forces and the Soviets.
EFFECTS? Celebration across many continents. POW's were returned home, except for any German. -
Dropping of the Atomic Bombs
WHAT? As the war on the Japanese continued in the pacific, a quick method was needed.
WHY? The war needed to come to an end quickly.
EFFECTS?Between the two bombs, immediately almost 120,000 died.
