Hitler Becomes Chancellor of Germany
Adolf Hitler became the Chancellor, or president, of Germany and the Third Reich takes power. -
Axis Powers are United
Between October 25 and November 25, Germany, Italy, and Japan form a treaty and are called the Axis Powers. -
World War ll Begins
After Germany invades Poland, World War ll officially begins. -
Germany Uses Blitzkrieg
From May until June, Germany uses a rapid strike war tactic called blitzkrieg, which means lightning war, to take over much of Western Europe. -
Pearl Harbor
Japan, one of the Axis Powers, bombed the US Navy in Pearl Harbor. The US entered the war on the Allies side the next day. -
D-Day in Normandy
The Allies invade France and push the Germans back. -
Capture of Iwo Jima
The Allies invade the Japanese island of Iwo Jima. After a fierce battle, they capture the island. -
Germany Surrenders
After Adolf Hitler commits suicide, Germany finds itself helpless and surrenders from WWll. -
A-Bombs on Japan
On August 6, the US dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan. On August 9, another atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, Japan. These bombs devasted the citizens of Japan. -
Japan Surrenders
After the atomic bombs are dropped, Japan surrenders to General Douglass MacArthur.
