    After Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated, Austria blamed Serbia for the attack. They then presented Serbia with a list of demands they wanted Serbia to meet. Serbia infact did not meet those demands so that led to Austria declaring war on Serbia. When Austria declared for war this marked the beginning of World War l.

    Germany declared war on Russia in response to Russia's mobilization of its military forces along Germany's border. Germany apparently saw them as a threat to its security and interests. The Germans saw it necessary to protect borders and keep a good position during the escalating conflict. This was also another big war declaration that was a significant turning point in the early station of World War l.

    On this day Archduke Francis Ferdinand had one failed assassination and had one successful one. He and his wife were both killed while driving down the street in a car. They figured out that the man who was responsible for the assassination was Bosnian Serb student Gavrilo Princip. This is what started World War 1.

Germany developed the Schlieffen Plan, a military strategy that would make a smooth invasion of France through Belgium. Then after Belgium refused to allow German soldiers through their territory, this declared the beginning of the Western Front, where both sides engaged in to a long and brutal trench warfare. Germany declaring war was yet another key event in World War l.

    Britain declared war because of Germany’s invasion of Belgium. They did it because it violated Belgium’s neutrality. Britain before the war pledged to protect Belgium’s sovereignty. With Germany invading them, it was Germany ignoring efforts to resolve the situation. So Britain felt the need to take action and declare war on Germany.

With them being a part of the Triple Entente, which was a mutual defense agreement with Russia and Britain. So, once Germany invaded Belgium which violated their neutrality. France then saw it as a direct threat to its security. So they then declared war on Germany and Austria, who were allies.

    Great Britain declared war because Germany is Austria's biggest ally. So since Britain's primary focus was on countering the German threat. But when Austria declared war on Serbia it caused things between them and Great Britain to escalate.

    Japan decided to declare war on Germany because they saw an opportunity to expand in Asia and the pacific by joining all the action. Their main goal was to seize some German territories in China and the Pacific. Them doing this made a significant role in the conflict all around and even contributed to the victory of the Allied Powers later on.

    He is leaving camp and mailing a letter to his wife. He is letting her know that when she gets the letter he will have arrived overseas in France. He tells her about how the chances of him not returning are slim but it still could happen. He talks about his crew and everything is good with them now since they left their one slacker in Schuyler, and since then he and his boys have been ready and eager to sail to France.

    He writes and says that he has left the camp and is close to being to land in a port in France. He mentions how it has been one of the most heartbreaking experiences being on that ship for 8 days and they are all thankful it is finally almost over. He says the water was smooth but the first day on the water was a rough one. He talks about how his only other bad day was the second day when he had the Spanish flu and it took days to get over. He also says the food on the ship is good quality.

    He says they are starting to talk about the war ending way before they ever get into it. He says that if the war is truly over he apologizes because he left her all alone for a “pleasure” trip to France. He says that sickness is starting to take over the base and he's feeling a cold or something worse coming along. He says that the city of France is very beautiful and that it is now night time and he hopes to see his wife soon and that a war never starts.

    He tells his wife that he has yet to be under attack. He is censoring mail, and making sure that nobody is trying to send mail giving away anything to the enemy, or that if a mail truck gets overrun they won't be able to know anything. He says he feels like a slacker to everyone when they are all fighting and he is doing mail. He also says the whole trip to France feels like he was taking a vacation because he thinks he has done nothing. He says they're talking about the war being over finally.

    They were starting to order officers back to the United States, and he was hoping to be able to get home to see his wife but he was never chosen. Even though he would like to stay for 6 more months so he can earn his gold stripe. He no longer does mail; he is an officer and has been traveling throughout France. He has been going into people's houses and giving messages or he's been visiting all the different bases throughout France.
