MaoZedong heads Long March
The long march was a Journy from southeast China to north. The march was 6000 miles and took two years. Though it says MaoZedong lead it, he just flew stop from stop to take occasional pictures with his troops to make it look like he was marching with them. -
Germany invades Poland; France and Great Britain declare war on Germany.
When Germany prepared to invade Poland and signed a a Treaty with The Soviet Union saying they would split Poland. In response, Britain signed a treaty with Poland trying to disuade Germany from war. Germany wasn't content and invaded, but then France and Britain declared war. -
Japan attacks Pearl Harbor
Attack on Pearl Harbor was a suprise attack led by the Japanese on a US naval base located in Hawaii. It was inteded to prevent US intervention on Japan by naval force. -
Germany surrenders
Germany was flanked on the east by the Soviets and the Western Allies on the west. Hitler knew he couldn't win and commited suicide. Karl Donitz signed the unconditional surrender. -
Allies use atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki
On August 6, 1945 during WWII, America dropped the first ever atomic bomb on the city of Hiroshima. It immediatly killed 80,000 people and another couple thousands died from the radiation. 3 days later, another atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki and killed around 40,000 people. -
United nations formed
The idea of the United Nations was presented by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. it bound 26 nations by oath to fight the Axis powers.
