    Japanese Invasion of China
    Japanese wanted to spread communism. They decided to invade China to not only convert them to communism but to also expand their territory. The Marco Polo Bridge Incident is what started the full blown conflict between the two contires. The Japanesse came into China and after 3 years Japanese couldn't claim victory nor was the Chinese able to get the Japanese out. After this the Japanese decided to attack Pearl Harbor.

    Germany's Invasion of Poland
    German troops invaded Poland all up and down the boarder and the attcked the Polish arifeild. The Germans also used their U boats and war ships to sink Poland's navel force. The tatic used by the Germans in this battle was called the 'lightning war" or Blitzkreig and it was the start of World WAr 2. World War II.

    The Blitzkreig was the German name for "lightning war". It was a tatics used by the Germans and was tested out in the invasion of Poland. Once tested Germany used the Blitzkreig attack of France, Belguim, and Netherlands. The tatic was to use was to create disorganization among the enemy by using firepower and mobile forces. This allowed the German troops to be less exposed and save them from being shot. This tatic also allowed the Germans to invade and gain more territory in WW2.

    On this day the Germans came and took over France. Churchill pleaded with the French not to give up because the United States would bring aid. The French leader ask Roosevelt and he said yes but Hull, Secretary of State said no. He said no because instead of it being seen as helping he felt that it would be seen as entering the war, This event led to France surrendering to Hitler. He took over to expand his power.

    The Barbarossa was the truning point in World War II. The Germans has severaly underestimated the Russians and was unable to fight a two-front war. During the attack the Germans reached Moscow but then rain came and created tons of mud. In November the Mud solitified because of the cold. Then December came with snow, the German troops were not prepared for the cold and had to retreat. This battle allowed the Russians to not be taken over or weakened by the Germans.

    Pearl Harbor Attack
    On December 8th the Japanese sent hundreds or Japanese fighter planes to attack the American Navel Base at Pearl Harbor. The Navel Base was near Honolulu, Hawaii. The attack killed 2,000 Americans and another 1,000 injured. The Japanese also managed to destroy 20 Navel Bases with 8 battle ships and 200 planes.The Japanese attacked to weaken the US so that they could get the nautral resources they needed. The attack on Pearl Harbor is what brought America into World War II.

    The Wannsee Conference was a meeting held by 16 Germans to figure out a way to permanently get rid of the Jewish population. The Conference was held in Berlin. They can up with the idea of concetration camps, however, the draw back was that it could take too long. They wanted to end the Jewish population quickly. Hitler and other Natzis felt that the Jews were the cause of all the problem that Germany had been facing. They sent the Jews to concetration camps to work unitl their death.

    Bataan Death March happened just two days after the attack of Pearl Harbor. America surrendered the Bataan Peninsula on teh main Philippine island of Luzon to the Japanese. Approximately 75,000 Filipino and American troops were taken and forced to make a 65 mile march in extreme heat and harsh treatment. Many of the trrops died during the march. The troops deid from the extreme conditions, torture, and starvation over a course of 5 days.

    Stalingrad is considered to be the bloodiest battle with 2 million deaths. However, the Stalingrad was the battle that put the favor in the Allies hands. It stopped the Germans from further advacement into the Soviet Union. The battle took place in Stalingrad and was considered a very patriotic battle by the Germans. The Russians were determined to take over Stalingrad because the city a vital industrial and transportation center.

    The battle of midway took place six months after the attck of Pearl Harbor by the Japanese. The United States won the battle of midway because they were able to break the Japanese secret codes. It was an important victory for the Americans because it was the turning point in the Pacific campaign. It allowed the the US and their Allies a to be able to move into an offensive positions to win the war with Japan.

    Hamburg, Germany was invaded by night as aprt of the Gomorrah Operation. Britian decided that on this evening Germany would be getting a taste of their own medicine. The British dropped 2,300 bombs by 791 aircrafts. In this raid only 21 aircrafts were lost. Then during the day the US decided to join and attacked Germany from the north. With these attacks The attack took a huge tole on Hitler and it weakend him.

    On Spetember 3rd the 8th Allied army began its invasion on the mainlands of Italy. The Italian government surrendered to the Allies in an agreement that the Italians would be shown leniency and that they would help to expell the Germans out of Italy. The Allied invaded so that they could knock Germany out of Italy. This invasion allowed Italy to be free from Germany's power and the Allies gained an extra set of hands to help them in the war.

    D-Day is another name for the Battle of Normandy. It was fought on the beaches of Normandy. America, Britian, and Canada sent 156,000 troops to invade the 50-mile streatch. It foreshadowed that Hitler's dream of Natzi domination was not going to happen. D-Day also was called the beginning of the end of the war in Europe.

    The Germans launched 3 armies to fight in the deadliest and most desperate battle in the western war. The battles were fought on the poorly roaded and heavily forrested Ardennes. The reason for this battle was to split the Allied armies by using the strategy of blitzkreig thrust through the Ardennes to Antwerp. The Germans were defeated by the Allied troops. This battle was the most coastly in deaths the US army had been in with a total of 100,000 deaths.

    The Battle of Iwo Jima was fought because the US needed a base near the Japanese coast. The island was in Bonin Chain. It was attacked by 3 marine ships after an air and navel bombardment. The battle was fought and won within a month of battle. This battle won a place in American lore with a historical photo of the American flag being raised in victory.

    The Battle of Okinawa was the largest and last batle in the Pacific islands. The battle was between 287,000 US and 130,000 Japanese. At stake were vitial air bases that the US needed to win the war with Japan. The Japanese sent navel and air force one way "suicide" missions to desroy Allies navel and air force. The Allies won the battle.

    Operation Thunderclap was under discuss by the Allied commanders. The talk was about bombing the eastern-most of the cities in Germany. The idea was to fracture the infrastructure behind what was becoming the Eastern front. The Allied also wanted to show the Germans that the their air defense was little to nothing now and that the Natizis had failed them. Thunderclap helped to move bombing up the timeline.

    VE Day is the victory in Europe day that both America and Great Britian celebrated. Everyone in both nations put out flags and banners clelebrating the defeat of the Natzi war machine. This was the day that the Germans laid down their arms in Europe. THe Germans surrendered in the fear that if not they would be captures and imprisioned like 2 million plus within the few days before the surrender. This surrender meant that the war was over.

    The first atomic bomb ever used in was on this day in Hiroshima. The US then dropped another bomb on August 9th in Nagasaki. THe bomb were dropped to speed up the war with Japan and have it finally be over. The other reason was to show the Soviet the new massive weapon that the US had created and that they were not afraid to use it. The atomic bomb did help the war with Japan end more quickly, however, some say that it was the first shot in the Cold War. It also started the nuclear race.

    On August 14, 1945 was the day that the Japanese finally anounced that they were surrendering. This effectively ended World War II. However, Japan formally didn't surrendered until September 2, 1945 on the U.S.S. Missouri anchored in Tokyo Bay. Finally after 6 years teh war was finally over.
