Japan tried to force the Chinese government to reognize independence of Manchukuo. It was the beginning of an open, undeclared, war between the two. Communists expanded thier influences through mass organizations, administrative reforms, land and tax reform measures.

    The Invasion of Poland was joint invasion by Nazi Germany, the Free City of Danzig, the Soviet Union, and a small Slovak contingent. Hitler wanted to gain control of Poland within six weeks. After the invasion, it caused Poland to be divided into Germany and Soviet Union. Territories taken from Poland were gained back in 1938.

    Pearl Harbor was an attack on Hawaii territory by the Japanese. Japanese fighter planes, bombers, and torpedo planes came in two waves on the attack of Hawii. All U.S. Navy battleships were damaged and only four sunk. Six battleships, not including the Arizona, would return later for service to fight in the war. Japan intended this as an action to keep the U.S. Pacific Fleet from getting involved with the Empire of Japan. This would lead to U.S. declaring war on Germany and Italy.

The Japanese hoped that another demoralizing defeat would force the U.S. to capitulate in the Pacific War. The Battle of Midway turned into the turning point of the Pacific. The U.S. didn't move from a state of naval parity to one of supremacy.

This was led by General Sir Harold Alexander's 15th Army Group. People believed that this invasion would remove Italy from the war. During this invasion, it would reduce the amount of shipping capacity needed to supply Allied forces in the Middle Easy and Far East.

    This was also known as the Okinawa campaign which involved 287,000 U.S. troops against 130,000 soldiers of the Japanese Army. Japan's navy mounted air attacts by planes on "suicide" missions. Series of defenses lined across the island enabled the Japanese to defend Okinawa. By July, the Japanese lost the fight of Okinawa leading to the U.S. having control of the land.

    VE Day is generally known as Victory in Europe Day celebrated on May 8th, 1945. Celebrating VE Day was to mark the formal acceptance by the Allies of World War II of Nazi Germany's surrender. It was an event that was celebrated throughout the whole world. Adolf Hitler committed suicide on April 30th. This led to Germany surrendering, also the act of military surrender being signed on May 7th and 8th.

    An American B-29 bomber droppedthe world's first atomic bomb over Hiroshima, a city in Japan. It wiped out 90% of the city and killed 80,000 peopel as soon as the bomb made contact with the city. Another bomb dropped on Nagasaki three days later, which also killedabout 40,000 people. Plans of the atomic bombing were made before Nazi Germany surrendered. The U.S. Sixth Army wanted to capture the southern part of Japanese main island, Kyushu. This led to a debate on atomic bombs.

    VJ Day is known as Victory over Japan Day, which is the day Japan surrendered in World War II. A formal surrender ceremony was performed in Tokyo Bay, Japan. It informed the people that they were surrendering. This happened due to the atomic bombs that were dropped on parts of Japan on August 6th and 9th on 1945. This led to an end of World War II and an international holiday called World Peace Day.
